Welcome to our adventure
Changing our focus to really see the world that we are a part of, not just being aware of the many things around us but TRUELY understanding them above and beyond us!For many years our vision was self oriented (our wants, needs, and plans). Alarm clock rings at a set time to get us up to join the grind. This paid the bills, bought meals, clothes to fold, and adventures untold. However during this time we began to feel a disconnect from the beauty and joy that surrounds us each day. The smell of an autumn breeze, the comfort of our cozy home (crazy as it may be) on a cold winters day, the Earth renewing itself with glorious activity and colors each spring, and the treat of a shade tree on a hot summers day. Even though we were raised and live in a country setting, we found that we had stopped seeing the wonder around us. So in 2020 when a family members who had an apiary for 10 years wanted to retire and asked us if we would be interested in keeping bees. There wasn't anyone else in the family who wanted to carry it on and we just couldn't see losing the history that they had worked so hard to establish for our family. We reevaluated our life, goals and focus. They agreed to be our mentors and we said yes. This has lead us to a passion for honeybees. We spent endless hours, late nights doing research and studying bees. If you ever want to know how little you really know learn about something new. Everything has its own terminology, science and cycles. Talk about brain overload!!!! Sometimes it will feel like to much and you just can't do it BUT at these times you have to breathe and refocus! Because it's about growth and quality of life. So in 2021 with help and hard work from ourselves, family, friends, and neighbors; we got our first hives. Spring is BOOM time for bees and our apiary quickly expanded. By winter time we were ready for a break. During what seemed like an endless wait in winter, we were blessed because we only lost one hive our first year. Spring BOOM again time for splits and swarms. We added more hives to our growing apiary. Beekeeping can be a quick growth business during good years. However like all things it can and will struggle some years. It's hard sweaty work during the summer. Crazy busy during the spring and fall. Winter worry about the condition of your bees is offset by building and preparing equipment for the following spring. Through it all we've been learning, growing and enjoying more of life around us through out the years. We not only care for bees, we also have chickens, goats, dogs, children AND grandchildren (yeah we're not spring chickens). We're not looking to become commercial beekeepers. We want to focus on quality over quantity. That's why we offer a limited amount of honey, bee products and services each year, along with products from our community and neighbors around the world. Your purchase helps to maintain our apiary and support other pollinators. Because as much as we love honeybees ALL of our pollinators are vital for life on our amazing planet!!!! Birds, bees, butterflies, moths, bats and so many more wonderful creatures are essential for food production and plant propagation. We have to learn balance not just within ourselves but also in our neighborhoods, in our communities, in nature, and the world over!!!!
